It is common to wonder when the right time is to start into therapy. Sometimes, people can fall into the temptation to feel like you have to be at your worst in order to take the step to improve your life, whether it’s emotionally, practically, or otherwise. However, starting therapy is a personal decision and for each person it can be different. People often contact me to start therapy when they start to notice that things aren’t functioning in their lives the way they want they want them to. Perhaps stress is building, or anxiety is becoming more of a recurring feeling, or day-to-day life is becoming more of a slog, or symptoms of depression are starting to show more regularly.
For others, when relationships start to feel like they are out of sync. Maybe you’re arguing with your partner more frequently, or you’re going through a breakup. Maybe relationships have just always been complicated for you, for any number of reasons, and you want to figure out how to create longer term relationships in your life.
And then for others, starting therapy can come about when phobias are starting to show up or worsen — such as fear of flying or agoraphobia, and more. Sometimes people will start therapy after a loss, or an anticipated loss that hasn’t happened yet, or for longer term grief that hasn’t subsided.
In short, therapy is here for you when emotions and life are becoming overwhelming and you’re looking for something to lighten the load and create some shifts, on the inside and/or outside. To take the first step just send me a message through the form.
