Making the decision to start therapy, whether you’ve been in therapy before or for the first time, is a very personal decision. It can often be met with uncertainty, ambivalence, apprehension, and other feelings. Starting therapy can also at the same time be met with feelings of hope, a step forward, progress, and a way to become unstuck, creating change for the better, and more.
It’s normal to not fully know what the process of therapy will look like or where you want to end up. While some people know going in that they want to conquer something specific — a feeling, a relationship issue, or otherwise — oftentimes, just knowing you have a place where you can unburden yourself from difficult and painful feelings and experiences is all that’s needed to be here. As the process opens organically, we’re able to gain more of an understanding together where you are now, and where you want to see yourself. Not only in life in general, but also how you want to emotionally experience your life, your relationships, what changes or shifts you’d like to see from where you are now. All that’s needed is a desire to move forward and take the first step of reaching out.
