Grief Counseling
Grief can be all-consuming over your life…
There is nothing easy about grief and loss. People enter counseling all the time because of grief that is either consuming them, persistent, or so painful at times that they feel they may break. Losses, whether expected or unexpected, hit all of us in such a deep and unique manner. Grief is difficult, and it can be unpredictable and confusing, showing up and taking over out of nowhere even when we’re having good days.
Grief is such a unique and complicated experience. While there is a lot about grief out there for people to read, the reality is everybody grieves and mourns in their own way. In fact, not only is the experience of grief different from person to person, but grief itself is experienced for a number of reasons. Grief most often applies to death. However, the process of grief actually happens with any kind of loss you may experience. This can apply to losses of friends, loss of a relationship, loss of childhood, endings of parts of your life that were unique in time and you may not be able to return to in the same form again. While all may have a different type of response, grief is experienced with any or all of these for people (and things not mentioned above).
Working Together
I am here to support you and help you manage and work through your grief. It is not easy to deal with grief alone. Many people allow their grief to go unaddressed and don’t choose to enter counseling or therapy for grief and losses. Grief that goes unaddressed often becomes more complex, and can turn into depression, and have other impacts on mental health. If you are going through grief or loss, grief counseling is here to give you a space to work through your grief so you don’t store it. Oftentimes, people will neglect their grief out of worry of burdening others with it. Here, the space is for you to mourn, to grieve, to reflect, reminisce, cry, express, and more. There is no pressure to go through your grief in certain stages, or to have to get through it quickly. Grief takes its own turns and its own time, which varies from one person to the next.
Losses hurt and are painful. Our work here in your therapy will be to help you manage and find your way through the pain, while also holding onto the memories and the positives you wish to keep with you.
