Psychodynamic Therapy

Therapy is a safe, supportive, and open space for you…

I offer psychodynamic therapy for people 18 years of age and older. For those who haven’t heard this term, psychodynamic therapy is the type of psychotherapy you usually hear people refer to for exploring deeper emotional and relational patterns that have developed over the course of your life. Some refer to it as “talk therapy”, however I find this term a bit deceptive as more happens in this therapy than “talk therapy” implies. It is generally insight-oriented, and involves reflecting on experiences (past and present), exploring and processing through emotions to come through the other end of them, and developing awareness and learning about yourself as you work towards organic change.

Psychodynamic therapy is also referred to as psychoanalytic psychotherapy, at times. I also specialize in Relational Psychoanalysis, which has some overlap with psychodynamic therapy. It’s okay if you don’t understand all of these terms. They all overlap quite a bit, and knowing the distinction isn’t so important. You’re welcome to reach out to me if you’re interested in starting therapy and we’ll discuss what you’re looking for.

My training in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy was completed in a 4-year post-graduate program at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies in New York City, where I remain affiliated today.

Our Work Together

In addition to psychodynamic and relational psychoanalytic therapy, I have experience working with elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and somatic therapy. There are various somatic therapy and mind and body-oriented therapy approaches that I incorporate as an integrative psychotherapist. These are brought into the work as can be helpful. It is also okay if you don’t wish to utilize somatic or mind-body therapy approaches. As a psychotherapist, I range from fully psychodynamic and contemporary psychoanalytic therapy with some people, to therapies that incorporate some of everything. Everything we do is based on your needs and what would be most helpful for you.

It’s common to begin therapy aware that something needs to shift within yourself and/or in your life, however you may not fully know what needs to change or where you’d like to end up yet. The path generally becomes illuminated organically through the process as we settle into our work here together. As we engage in a process of self-reflection and discovery together, we are able to help you become empowered in various areas of life that may otherwise be obstacles, and therefore help you become more in control of your life. Reach out to me if you have questions or would like to discuss what you’re looking for.
